Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with western medicine in treating acute extraocular muscle paralysis(AEMP). Methods 48 cases(66 eyes) of AEMP were analyzed retrospectively in our hospital. All patients were divided into 3 groups according to different treatment method:1. Western medicine group; 2. Acupuncture group; 3 Combination group. The therapeutic effects were judged by the changes of symptom of diplopia, eye movement and strabismus angle before and after treatment and the difference was compared in 3 groups. Results 1. After 1 month follow-up, most of patients in 3 groups felt diplopia relieve, eye movement strengthen, and strabismus angle decline(P<0.05)compared those before the treatment, which the effect of the combination group was the most obvious. 2. The combination group had difference compared with the other 2 groups after the treatment(P<0.05), while there was no difference between the western medicine and the acupuncture group(P>0.05). Conclusion The combination of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine is superior to simple drugs or acupuncture on the treatment of acute extraocular muscle paralysis .
