Objective To observe the clinical curative effect of electro-acupuncture treatment of functional constipation. Methods 80patients with functional constipation were selected from the acupuncture clinic of Wuhan Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine from September 2012 to October 2013. By treating with electroacupuncture at bilateral Tianshu point， abdominal knot poit and with bilateral Shangjuxu poit， observing the changes of the symptom scores， curative effect index， plasma nitric oxide synthase（NOS） and plasma five hydroxytryptamine（5-HT） of the patients before and after treatment. Results In 80 cases， 47 cases were cured， 19 cases were markedly effective， 8 cases were markedly effective， 6 cases were ineffective， the total efficiency was 92.5%. The content of Plasma NOS before and after treatment was 1.70±0.08ng/mL and 0.83±0.22ng/mL， the content of 5-HT before and after treatment was 394.36±20.38ng/mL and 496.97±25.53ng/mL， There were Statistically significant difference before and after treatment（P<0.05）. Conclusion Electro-acupuncture therapy has significant effect on functional constipation， worthy of further clinical researching and application.
