Objective To observe the clinical curative effect for the stroke patients by the lateral puncture of main point（BL 10） compared with electroacupuncture at the balance area acupuncture therapy， to observe new method for the treatment of balance dysfunction after stroke. Methods 100 cases of patients from Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Hangzhou of acupuncture of in-patient department were randomly divided into 2 groups. The treatment group has 50 patients， and the control group has 50 patients. The control group treated by traditional balance acupuncture with function training for treatment， The treatment group treated by a balance of functional training and traditional acupuncture treatment， also treated by lateral puncture of main point Tianzhu（BL 10） compared with electroacupuncture at the balance area. Once before the treatment and once after 4 weeks， two groups were assessed by Berg balance scale. Results 4 weeks after treatment， therewas a significant improvement of balance function both in the treatment group and the control group（P<0.05）， there was a statistical difference of balance capability ranking between the treatment group as well as the control group after treatment（P<0.05）. Conclusion The lateral puncture of main point（BL 10）compared with electroacupuncture at the balance area acupuncture group and the traditional acupuncture with rehabilitation group can improve balance function in stroke patients， but the former is superior to the latter.
