Objective To inquire about the records of epilepsy prescriptions in Chinese Medical Code, and to summarize the characteristics of prescription selection and medication of epilepsy. Methods Through the electronic search of Chinese Medical Code, we found the prescription for the treatment of epilepsy in the works of traditional Chinese medicine of previous dynasties. Excel Office 2019 was used to establish a database to analyze the frequency, efficacy, taste and return of prescriptions.The traditional Chinese medicine inheritance support system(V2.5) was used to analyze the prescription rules, core drug pairs and new prescriptions in the treatment of epilepsy. Results A total of 150 Chinese medicines were involved. There are 22 traditional Chinese medicines with frequency≥8 times. The main drug properties were warm, clam and cold. The main tastes were mainly pungent, bitter and sweet. The highest frequency of meridian tropism were liver, spleen, heart and lung channels. The categories of traditional Chinese medicines with high frequency of occurrence were liver wind calmed drug, diaphoretic drug and qi-restoratives medicine, obtaining 22 groups of high frequency drug, including 8 groups of core drugs and 4 new prescriptions. Conclusion The analysis of the rules and new prescriptions for the treatment of epilepsy through data mining can provide theoretical basis and new thinking for the treatment of epilepsy.
