Abstract:In Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor, many medical terms of high generality are the results of cognitive categorization stored in the minds of ancient doctors through internalization based on their life experience in the nature. Thus,as far as the translation of these terms is concerned, the cognitive mechanism should first be taken into consideration. Taking Yin(淫), Jue(厥)and Jing(经)as examples, this paper explains the process of categorization of concepts based on the study of their etymology and multiple meanings in Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor. Meanwhile, through a detailed analysis of the typical examples of translation, it expounds that translation is a cognitive activity across languages in essence. Besides, the activity focuses on the cognitive basis of language, so it is, to some extent, an attempt to explore TCM translation from the perspective of cultural origin.
